Buyer Guide to Choose Delonghi Heaters
Types of Delonghi heaters
There are two types of heaters available today: the first and older with metal heating elements and the second more modern with ceramic heating elements. De’Longhi, like almost all other heater manufacturers, still offers both types in its product line.
Metal resistance fan heaters
In models with metal resistance, the space is heated by forcing air through a blazing hot metal resistance.
The principle of operation is simple: the current through the resistive metal makes it incandescent, and this heat is transferred through the resistance to the air drawn in by the fan and discharged into the environment.
De’Longhi fan heaters with metal resistance are usually a little cheaper for these models than ceramic models. Nevertheless, they have the disadvantage of absorbing more electricity and requiring longer heating times.
Ceramic Heaters
Ceramic resistance technology was introduced recently and although the working principle is basically the same, the material of the resistance has changed.
De’Longhi ceramic heaters In fact, ceramic has better electrical conductivity than metal: it heats up almost immediately, significantly reducing the time spent waiting for hot air and requiring less energy. However, the cost is slightly higher than metal resistance models.
Delonghi heater line
As we have mentioned, Delonghi produces numerous models of heaters, naturally divided into different lines according to their characteristics and type. We will review here the main lines and list the basic characteristics.
Caldobanio
This is undoubtedly the most famous product in the De’Longhi fan heater line. As the name suggests, these are fan heaters designed for use in bathrooms and therefore have an IP 21 insulation rating, suitable for protecting the machine from splashes and water penetration.
These models are “freestanding”, which means that they do not offer the possibility of fixed wall mounting, so they can also be used in other rooms of the house.
De’Longhi Caldobagno fan heaters are available as “basic” models, with only a heating power selector, or as more advanced models with a 24-hour programmable timer. Resistors can be metal or ceramic.
Bending Wires
This is the most advanced line of Delonghi heaters. In fact, all models in this line are ceramic-based and equipped with automatic oscillation for a more even distribution of heat in the environment.
The best models in the line also have an elegant LED display, a 24-hour programmable timer and an included remote control. An excellent example of a De’Longhi Bend Line fan heater belonging to this series is the De’Longhi Bend Line HFX60V20.
Vertical Edge
Models belonging to the Vertical Edge series are simple in design, but feature beveled corners and elegant designs.
These are metal resistance heaters equipped with an IP 21 protection rating and can therefore also be used in bathrooms in complete safety.De’Longhi Vertical Edge heaters are functional.
However, they are reduced: they are available with a choice of three different levels of heating power (from 850 to 2000 W) and fan speed.
Capsules
The Capsule line of De’Longhi fan heaters is another line characterized by its simplicity of operation and stands out for its very compact size and retro design.
These small ceramic fans are round in shape and come with handles that make them almost like a handbag.
De’Longhi Capsule heaters, available in two levels of heating power, 900 and 1800 W, as well as an air speed selector.
They are not IP 21 insulated. Therefore they are not recommended for use in bathrooms.
Vertical Younghi
De’Longhi’s Vertical Young range is the simplest and cheapest range proposed by the manufacturer. These are metal resistance fan heaters, compact in size and simple in design, equipped with a fixed power of 2000 W and a fan speed selector knob.
Characteristics of Delonghi Heater
After a brief introduction to De’Longhi fan heaters, it is interesting to compare these appliances with other brands on the market.
For this reason, we have chosen to follow the five basic factors we have identified for evaluating fan heaters: this will allow us to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the De’Longhi brand compared to its competitors.
- Performance
The range offered by De’Longhi is absolutely complete: we have seen that this includes both metal and ceramic resistance models.
In most cases, there are at least two levels of heating power, with a maximum level of 2200 W, in line with the best offers on the market.
The flow rate of Delonghi heaters is also generally good, i.e. the living volume that can be effectively heated: even the most “basic” models can actually heat around 55 cubic meters, while the best ones even reach 70 cubic meters.
- Functions
As for the functionality of the Delonghi heaters, we must again bear in mind the breadth of the range on offer.
In fact, it is clear that the simpler models are not equipped with valuable features, limited to the choice of power (if present) and fan speed.
The electric heater Delonghi oscillates automatically; however, if we consider the high-end models, Delonghi has a solid competitive advantage in terms of quality and quantity of features offered.
The best models offer a programmable 24-hour timer, an automatic oscillation function, summer ventilation (i.e. at room temperature), an integrated thermometer and thermostat, and often a remote control.
In some cases, they are also equipped with elegant LED displays that show room temperature conditions and active functions. In most cases, of course, these are ceramic models with an IP 21 protection rating.
- Construction
From a construction point of view, there is not much to say: in terms of weight and dimensions, the Delonghi heaters are not very different from the models offered by the competition.
The exceptions are some high-end models with a tilted turret shape and the Capsule series models, which, as we have seen, have a rather primitive design.
- Safety
As far as safety is concerned, De’Longhi heaters are impeccable: all models are equipped with double insulation, a tip-over automatic shut-off system and an overheating thermostat.
A large part of the range is also equipped with IP 21 insulation, so it is splash-proof.
This last point seems particularly relevant to us: it is often a mistake to buy a heater to heat a bathroom without checking whether it is suitable for this purpose.
- Easy to use
We also give a positive rating to the practicality of the Delonghi heater, both for the low-end model and for its easy-to-use nature.
