Buyer's Guide, Comparison and Advices

Zojirushi rice cookers are among the best cooking devices on the market, along with their Korean counterparts. The innovative technology in each model provides the user with the best cooking experience, which is the main selling point of the Zojirushi rice cooker. With that said, Elephant Seal has some other features that we will discuss below.

Stylish Design

When you look at most Elephant & Seal rice cookers, they look like machines from the future that can meet any of your requirements. Unlike traditional pressure cookers or cheap rice cookers, Elephant Seal rice cookers give off a premium feel, and they fit right into your kitchen counter as if they were custom-made for it. The control panel, LCD, beautiful backlit buttons, and easy-to-understand settings are all features that set the Elephant & Seal brand apart from other brands in the market.

Innovative Technology

At Elephant & Seal, they like to incorporate the latest technology into their new models, which is what makes Elephant & Seal rice cookers different and unique compared to traditional rice cookers on the market. Artificial intelligence, neuro-fuzzy logic, induction heating, and micom (microcomputer) technology are some of the cutting-edge technologies that Elephant & Seal incorporates into their rice cookers.

The innovative technologies allow users to have a convenient and unique cooking experience. Zojirushi’s rice cooker knows your cooking cycle and prepares different types of rice such as white rice, brown rice and sushi rice without tending to the stove. All you have to do is select your preferred cooking program and the Zojirushi rice cooker will take care of the rest for you.

If you like to keep things simple and need an easy-to-use and simple appliance to help you cook, you can choose the Simpler Zojirushi model. These simpler models have only one button to operate and you need to press that button to start cooking. When cooking is complete, the unit will automatically turn off. Now you may be thinking that these simpler rice cooker models may lack the advanced features that most Zojirushi models have. Don’t panic, these basic models do feature neuro-fuzzy logic, induction heating and intelligent cooking algorithms to provide you with a delicious bowl of fluffy rice every time.

NS-TSC10 Micom Rice Cooker, despite its small build, has the capacity of 5.5 cups of uncooked rice and comes with a steam basket where you can pop in your veggies, meat, and fish to cook simultaneously with your rice.

Shades of cooking functions

The Elephant & Seal rice cooker (unless it is a simpler model) is usually equipped with an LCD display with multiple buttons with various programs written on them. This setting allows you to use any cooking function as you wish. Regular Elephant & Seal models usually come with 8 to 10 menu settings from which you can choose according to your cooking requirements. These settings are usually white rice, brown rice, GABA brown rice, mixed, porridge, quick cook, slow cook, sweet, sushi rice, and sometimes fresh flavor settings.

Some Zojirushi models are versatile and advanced enough to cook a variety of dishes, and with the push of a few buttons, you can cook any food you choose. These stoves can make stews, oatmeal, pasta, porridge, and you can even bake cakes. Cookware with a steamer allows you to steam vegetables or meat while cooking rice underneath.

Automatic keep warm

This feature automatically activates when cooking is complete and helps keep the rice warm at serving temperature for several hours unless you are ready to serve it.

Extended Keep Warm

The extended keep warm function comes in handy if you need to keep the rice warm for an extended period of time (for example, 10 hours or more). Some Zojirushi models can keep rice warm for up to 15 hours.

Induction heating

The heating element is placed underneath (at the bottom) the traditional rice cooker and provides the heat needed for cooking. The main problem with this mechanism is that the heat is not evenly distributed and it can scorch the rice while the top layer of the rice is not cooked. Induction heating is a system where the heating element is placed throughout the pan, helping to properly distribute heat to each corner of the pan and cook each grain of rice evenly. No more overcooked, burnt or undercooked rice!

Delay Timer

The delay timer feature is perfect for those who often get home late and want to prepare food because they don’t want to cook after a long, busy day. To use this feature, simply put in your ingredients and set the timer in advance. When you return home, you will have your meal ready. Some models allow you to delay cooking for up to 24 hours.

Quick Cook

The Quick Cook feature allows you to cut cooking time in half or more and have your meal ready in minutes.

Heaters and steamers

The keep warm function can be used to heat and reheat rice. Some Zojirushi models come with a steamer that lets you cook rice while steaming vegetables or meat. The same tray can be used to wash the rice before cooking. You can also purchase a separate rice washer for a few dollars more.

Pressure Cooker

The pressure cooking feature allows you to cook food at high pressure, reducing the time by more than 50% while retaining nutrients without losing natural flavors and aromas.

Slow Cooker

Slow cooking is a feature that allows you to cook food at a relatively low temperature, making it more flavorful and aromatic. With all these features, the rice cooker can replace all appliances, providing you with a single tool for all your cooking needs. Another benefit is that having one multifunctional device saves you money, effort, energy and time spent on cleaning all of them. The multifunctional nature of the Zojirushi rice cooker gives you a neat and tidy kitchen because you have multiple small appliances on your shelves for your cooking needs. As a result, the multifunctional rice cooker saves space, money and time.

Cooking power

Zojirushi rice cookers are usually bulky, but smaller models are also available. Typically, Zojirushi rice cookers have a large capacity of 10 cups of rice. Smaller models have a capacity of 6 cups of rice. Before buying a rice cooker, determine how much rice you need to cook at one time. If you have a large family, we recommend purchasing a model with a capacity of 10 cups (cooked). Single people or those living with a partner should choose the smaller model with a capacity of 3-4 cups of rice.

Type of Zojirushi Rice Cookers

Zojirushi manufactures simple buttons to multifunctional, innovative, and sophisticated rice cookers for every household. Let’s have a look!

1. Traditional Elephant and Seal Rice Cooker

A conventional rice cooker simply cooks rice when you turn on the power and turns off when the cooking cycle is complete. However, it can keep rice warm for a few hours.

Even with this basic function, it is still better to cook rice in a rice cooker than the traditional pot method. Traditional rice cookers have the most basic cooking controls, but certain models must have a keep warm function that keeps rice warm for a long time at serving temperature, which is a very cool feature. Conventional rice cookers are very easy to understand and operate due to the simple one-touch controls. Please note that you cannot adjust these rice cookers to cook different types of rice.

2. Microcomputer (Micom) Rice Cooker

Microcomputer rice cookers or Micom rice cookers are rice cookers with a microcomputer chip that allows the unit to automatically fine tune the temperature and time when cooking different types of rice.

3. Induction heating (IH) rice cooker

Rice cookers with induction heating technology turn the pot into a heating element, allowing heat to be evenly distributed to all corners to ensure precise and even cooking. These rice cookers also feature MICOM technology, so they can fine-tune and change the cooking time and temperature depending on the type of rice being cooked. A smart device for smart people!
